Women's League
A new initiative is set to begin the First Friday of October (1st) and will run monthly ending in May.
This will be a monthly opportunity to bring your team out for some games against other women’s teams. You don't have to be a professional to play. We welcome all abilities of teams for those who are already playing in their respective elite leagues to those women’s teams who just want to have a game once a month, to Under 13s who need some game practice. Depending on the number of interested teams we may divide the teams into ability groups for games.
Games will be played at the Cambridge Regional College (Kings Hedges Road, Cambridge CB4 2QT) on the First Friday of the Month from 5.15 – 7.15 pm. There is a £10 team entry fee that must be sent prior to the first game along with the application form. In addition, there will be a £3 charge for players to play each week. Each player must be registered with England Basketball and their EB number must be registered with us before they will be allowed to play. To keep the games running properly, we will be hiring Level 2 Referees.
We would like to think that this league, although not to be an elite professional league, would enable us to recruit and train Table Officials and Referees into the sport for Cambridgeshire.
Format of the Friday evening to be ironed out but my hope is that each team will have two mini games each week, depending on the number of teams entered. I realize the times may be early but as it is once a month, we should be able to arrange our schedules to make it once a month.
This is very much in the experimental stage and so Cambridge HotShots will commit to this league for the first year. If successful, we will make arrangements to form this league as its own entity.
If your team is unable to join the league, please do be in touch with any suggestions or helpful hints for its success.
Thanks for your support,
Carolyn Jupp
